Made-To-Order and ‘Off the Rack’ Dresses: What Are the Differences?

Made-To-Order and ‘Off the Rack’ Dresses: What Are the Differences?

If you're looking for a new dress or gown in our shop, you've probably noticed that there are two different options available to you: made-to-order and standard sizes, also called 'off the rack'. But what do these terms mean? What's the difference between them? And how can you choose the right option for your needs? This article will explain all.

What is a made-to-order dress?

Made-to-order dresses are designed specifically for you. They're generally made to your measurements and you can often choose your preferred color. Some people need a dress that's longer or shorter, others require more room in the bust area or waist; made-to-order dresses make it possible to have these features built into the garment from the start so there is often no need for alterations.

Elsewhere, a custom dress can cost quite a bit more than an off-the-rack or standard size options—but with us, there is no difference in price between a standard size and made-to-order one. We get how important this special occasion is for you, which is why we offer made to order dresses at no additional charge!

A made-to-order dress typically takes a little extra time to produce for our tailors, but the result is worth it. You get to own a one-of-a-kind piece that’s perfectly suited to your style and body shape. So worth the wait, right?

What is an 'off the rack' dress?

The second type of dress is called 'off the rack', which for us means it is a standard size. This means that the fabric, cut and size of the dress are standardized. As is probably clear by now, these dresses will come in standard sizes and can be purchased without any body measurements being taken if you know your standard dress size.

For example, if you have a standard dress size (e.g., size 10), then buying an 'off the rack' style could be a good choice since it saves you time and energy by not requiring any body measurements from you at all!

Considerations when buying a made-to-order dress

Once you've decided whether or not to buy a made-to-order dress, there are some things to keep in mind:

  • Research different styles and options before narrowing down your selection based on your preferences. Be sure the style of dress suits your body type, age and height as well as any other considerations such as what type of fabric will be used and if it's appropriate for an event such as prom or wedding party attire.

  • Place an order in time and allow enough time for production/shipping so that it arrives on time! Made-to-order means we start production after we receive your order. If in doubt, please check in with us, and we can get a time estimate from our tailor.

  • Ensure your measurements are correct – ideally get them done by professionals who specialize in sizing people properly. This way everything fits perfectly without any issues or alterations needed after purchasing online!
